Easter eve

During much of the year, the Gospel stories through which Christians make metaphor for the Great "I AM" can feel a little frayed. At least they do for me. What do I know of vineyards and sheep? Not much.

But then the great festival of Easter comes along and it becomes all too easy to enter into the metaphor. Perfect love comes into the world; empires and authorities do what they always do: torture love unto death.

It only takes looking around to see that.

This Jesus of the Maize (of the Corn, the Indio peasants) resides at a side altar in the Cathedral on the Zocalo in Mexico City.
