Saturday scenery: San Francisco's glass and steel new downtown

City residents who don't often venture into the heart of the financial district/corporate playground downtown can find the current building boom quite astonishing.

It's a world of shiny glass and steel down there ...

As well as projected fantasies.

Will any of this hold up as well as this 1920s facade? I found myself wondering while Walking San Francisco.

It seems big and glitzy and flimsy. I don't relate to it.

Haven't been to S.F. for quite a few years -- wouldn't recognize it, probably if those structures are any indication. Time will tell ......

It is rather amazing, isn't it? But there are twice as many people in the world as when we were young, so I guess they all have to be housed/officed somewhere. I also look at all the steel and glass skyscrapers in soon-to-liquefy-during-the-next-big-earthquake landfill South of Market and think, "this is insane," rather like the development plans for Treasure Island.
